Platz nehmen (2019)

World Premiere: November 22nd, 2019, Monologfestival Berlin

„Platz nehmen“ is an answer to this year’s motif of the Monologfestival at the Theaterdiscounter Berlin: „Alarmstufe Rot“ [red alert] was the motto for the 2019 festival edition.

March or blockade: Does an alarm cause people to stand up, or rather make them persevere in their seats?

Stage performers usually rise when the audience sits down to watch and listen to them. In her solo „Platz nehmen“, the choreographer Antje Pfundtner prefers to stand up when she feels it is the right thing to do. Rising, creating space for yourself, taking action, testing an uprising: Who says that you have to stand up in order to find a voice? And, in contrast, what does it mean to stay seated?

On the occasion of the Monologfestival 2019, the Hamburg choreographer Antje Pfundtner arrived with a new version of the third part of her melancholic trilogy „Sitzen ist eine gute Idee“, in which she questions, defends, rejects, evokes and shares the choreographic and political potential for action in her audience.
