Antje Pfundtner in Gesellschaft is celebrating its 20th anniversary on stage and will do so with you!

After two pandemic seasons, a 20-year anniversary is a wonderful occasion to get back together. The fact that people are basically social animals already inspired Hamburg’s choreographer Antje Pfundtner to seek out company on stage 20 years ago. This is how the label Antje Pfundtner in Gesellschaft was founded in 2001; since then, it has been producing pieces and discursive formats.

Antje Pfundtner in Gesellschaft would like to share and celebrate its anniversary with you on two evenings:

“REDEN WIR ÜBER GELD!”
Friday, 29.10.2021, 7:30 pm, Kampnagel Hamburg, stage K1

“How do you share ideas? How do you share money?” To approach these questions, Antje Pfundtner in Gesellschaft has been sending out invitations to her regular dialogue platform “Tischgesellschaft” since 2018 in order to research the sharing of resources with artists and other guests from other occupational fields.

On the occasion of its 20-year stage anniversary, Antje Pfundtner in Gesellschaft is opening up its format for the audience and is looking forward to finally be debating with real/analogue people about such a sensitive topic as money. In the presence of numerous Tischgesellschaft members, on this evening options and utopias of monetary sharing as well as models of distribution and valuation will be discussed; for example, the artists’ fund that Antje Pfundtner and Anne Kersting founded together with the artists Barbara Lubich, Fabrice Mazliah, Sheena McGrandles, Roberta Mosca, Tilman O’Donnell, Juliana Oliveira, Norbert Pape, Regina Rossi and Anke Strauß: “The fund we wanted to initiate aims at generating a collective capital that enables thinking bigger than any individual can!”

In addition to the question of what work methods are made possible by earmarked money, we would first like to discuss with you about the utopias of monetary sharing and are looking forward to collecting all of our ideas.

“GALA”
Saturday, 30.10.2021, 7:00 pm, Kampnagel Hamburg, stage K1

This anniversary evening will not be a piece, but rather a dedication: to dance, to Kampnagel’s stages and to you, the audience!

Together with Antje Pfundtner’s long-term artistic accomplices, we will dance through the past years to pose the question: What perspective do 20 years of shared time, of a shared stage, create? And what vision of dance will we dedicate the next 20 years to? How do we want to get together in the future, and what promises does this hold for us?

The first step could already be to rewrite the end of her famous solo “nimmer” (2014). Back then, Antje Pfundtner released the audience with the words: “So, and now everybody get lost! Take your jackets with you! I want to be a little bit sad!”. Now she says: “So, and now everybody come back! Bring your jackets! I would like to celebrate with you!”

With thanks to all our guests.

„It was a celebration, a really beautiful, creative, entertaining, moving, wonderful celebration! Antje Pfundtner called the evening ‘Gala’ – and that’s what it was. With a huge sparkling silver curtain and equally sparkling covers on every second chair in K1 of Kampnagel in Hamburg: a checkerboard pattern is de rigueur in the auditorium. On the empty seats: lots of equipment from 20 years of pieces – a wild collection and, at the same time, a small cabinet of curiosities. And despite 3G and masks, Antje Pfundtner didn’t miss the opportunity to greet each and every one of her guests personally – what a beautiful gesture in this ungood time of ‘social distancing’. (…) Antje Pfundtner put together a colorful evening with small excerpts from her pieces, but also an entire series of  – more or less surprising – anniversary contributions from artist friends. While entering, the guests saw and heard congratulations, projected on a big balloon, an part of the stage set of ‘Alles auf Anfang’. Antje Pfundtner then rolled it away quickly when the gala started – stage clear for a grandiose, varied evening. The round of congratulators was introduced by Hamburg’s cultural senator in person, who didn’t miss the opportunity to create a moody bouquet with his unique eloquence: a small eulogy for a dancer and choreographer who had started annoying him in the period when he had been in the senate chancellery and later state councilor in the Department of Culture – and who had never lost the energy required to advocate for the independent dance scene. Many, many congratulants followed, regularly interrupted by Antje Pfundtner’s small solos, with references to or excerpts from her many works created in these last 20 years. It repeatedly became clear how well thought out and polished the phrases are that Antje implements in her pieces – how much they play with words, how many allusions and musings there are. A special moment occurred when Hamburg’s independent dancers staged a small choreography – congratulations and thanks simultaneously. (…) And so, the four hours of this evening were much longer than planned but never ever tiring. Antje Pfundtner is a far too talented solo entertainer to let this happen; at the same time, she never forgets who is at her side – her company and again and again different guests and colleagues. Here’s to the next 20 years, Antje Pfundtner in Gesellschaft!“ Annette Bopp/ tanznetz.de
